triangulopiramide (trianglepyramid), 2026

tubular metal structure made of Metalon tubes, ACM sheet cladding, LED screens, video, sound
trianglepyramid (2026) is a study of the triangle instrument and its historical roots in Ancient Egypt. I blend archival footage of the triangle—an instrument made famous in Brazil by the forró pé de serra genre, as played by musicians who accompanied the popular musician Luiz Gonzaga—with footage of a triangle, just like this one, being played in a Coptic church in contemporary Egypt. Alongside with those images, footage of the instrument that is believed to have given rise to both of these: the sistrum.
